PRESS: Rostelecom to invest 6.6 bln rbl in biometric data collection

MOSCOW, Apr 15 (PRIME) -- Russian state-controlled telecom operator Rostelecom will spend 6.6 billion rubles till 2030 to get biometry of 50 million people, mainly via the municipal multi-functional centers, business daily Kommersant reported on Thursday, quoting a passport of the Citizen’s Digital Profile project.

The government plans a large-scale re-launch of Rostelecom’s Unified Biometric System, which will be done by working group National Innovative System headed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Rostelecom as a concession operator will invest 6.6 billion rubles by 2030 in collection of biometry – face and voice – of about 50 million Russians for the Unified Biometric System. Data submission will be free for the people.

Launched in mid-2018, the Unified Biometric Data is a platform for remote biometric identification of Russians initiated by the central bank and the Digital Development Ministry.
